Monsoon Blues Busted
By Dr. Narendra Singh

The beauty and perils of monsoon are immense and touch our hearts with both pleasure and agony at the same time. It is so lovely to watch the clouds and the lightening and feel both pleasure and fear. The floods also look so good, but make thousands miserable. However, without rain nothing will grow and life is not possible.
The changes in temperature and humidity are abrupt, and hygienic conditions go haywire, resulting in the growth of bacteria and fungi. Foods spoil quickly and drinking water becomes contaminated, causing many diseases (like dysentery, diarrhea etc.) Mosquito and houseflies flourish causing viral fever, malaria, filarial* and other diseases. The body systems fail to cope with these sudden changes in temperature and humidity, which lower the body's resistance to fight against air borne and water borne infections, allergies, viruses and bacteria.
We need for our bodies to develop resistance by strengthening the immune system, so we can maintain and even improve our heath during the monsoon season. Here ORGANIC INDIA comes to your rescue with organic Immunity, Breathe Free and Herbal Antibiotic formulations. 1 capsule each twice daily will boost your immune system to fight against diseases and allergies.

If GM crops killed the sheep, are we safe?

Genetically Modified (GM) crops and food have not been free from controversies ever since they became a possibility and a reality. The issue is of concern to all of us. A case in point is this glaring incident that occurred in a village in southern part of India where 651 sheep died after they consumed Bt cotton's post harvest residue (a GM cotton). The animals did not even respond to any medicines that were given to them. Post mortem examination on the dead sheep established that Bt cotton killed them. Not just this, a shepherd who consumed meat of an affected sheep suffered serious diarrhea. This horrific sheep fiasco has triggered protests in southern India.

Save Our Rice!

In Northern India, groups of farmers protested against the GM field trials in the Lucknow rice belt. Even with all the data and controversy over the BT cotton, some seed companies have still pushed for the introduction of more GM food crops, including one of our most important food staples, RICE! In Mahura Kalan village in Mohanlalganj, Uttar Pradesh, villagers spread a 7,500 square feet banner on a paddy crop in one of the fields. The banner said: "Save Our Rice!". This protest happened in November. A year before some farmers burnt suspected Bt rice trial crops in two other districts of the state. Farmers argued that GM crops would not only escalate cost of agriculture inputs, but are also suspected of serious health hazards.

Healthy Recipe!
The Green Smoothie

It's very simple. You just need a blender and three things for a quick, simply, tasty way to boost your nutrition and your health.
1. Ripe sweet fruit
2. Fresh clean water
3. Leafy greens

Here is how to make enough for 2:
Place in a good blender -
3 ripe bananas*,
add 2 cups of water (250 ml)
blend for 5 seconds.
Fill up the blender with a good amount of leafy lettuce and/or spinach leaves and a little parsley**,
And blend again until smooth (about 20 seconds depending on how strong your blender is).
Then taste. Add more water or more fruit or more greens for the taste and consistency you like the most.

* You can mix with or use other ripe fruits such as: mangos, papayas, apricots, peaches, pears, oranges, apples etc.

**You can use any combination of leafy lettuce, spinach, parsley, coriander leaves, even celery (with or without tops), cabbage leaf or any other fresh leafy greens.

Simple and quick, and possibly the most nutritious and healthy addition to your regular diet that you can give yourself and your family. Kids also love these drinks - see the video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkU8_zKNcis

We recommend you make and drink one of these every day. Try different fruits and different greens on different days, and use fruits in season so they are ripe, fresh and sweet. We recommend using all organic ingredients as much as possible.
