ORGANIC INDIA on Sunday launched sugarcane juice in the form of syrups. The syrups have been fortified with a number of herbs that guard against harmful chemicals found in conventional sugar while maintaining its nutritional qualities.
Briefing newsmen, Corporate Communications manager Vandita Joan Samuel said the syrup contained whole herbs instead of their extracts. "Extracts do not have complete medicinal value of a herb, as many medicinal components are lost during extraction and this disturbs the balancing act of these components that are present naturally in a particular ratio in the plant," Samuel added.
The company has launched five varieties of the syrup, each for a different purpose. The Livcare syrup revitalizes the liver, improves its functioning and prevents further deterioration due to disease.
Then there is the Femcare syrup, which provides relief from premenstrual syndromes like headache, body ache, fever, and depression, that many women suffer before and during menstruation, irregular menstruation. It also provides relief in premenopausal and menopausal syndromes that give hot flushes, mood swings, irritability, depression etc., besides normalizing mother's physiology after childbirth. Femcare syrup also improves milk formation in mothers who do not have enough milk to breast-feed their new-born.
Elaborating on the products, Samuel said they had brought out an Immunity syrup that strengthened the immune system and thus prevented these problems on regular use. "Patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy can also be benefited by Immunity syrup as their immune system is weakened by these therapies," she added. The other varieties include VMA syrup, which contains herbs rich in various vitamins, minerals and amino acids, and Osteoseal syrup, which provides calcium, phosphorous, iron, magnesium and various vitamins.
