With the swine flu scare gripping the city, doctors have urged not to panic as the disease is curable with anti-viral drug 'Tamiflu'. Alternative system of medicines have come up with their prescription for treatment of swine flu.

In the State Ayurvedic College, Tudiyaganj, ayurvedic medicines for swine flu are available free to the denizens. College principal Bhagwan Singh remarked: "We are offering Gojihwa vaidik syrup for children besides Karha for diabetic. For adults, there is Sanjeevni Buti, Tribhuvan Kirti Ras and Godanti Bhasm." He said the medicines were effective in controlling swine flu. Other preventive measures include performing regular yagna and hom as per rituals. "The smoke which emanates from these yagnas help in purifying the environment," he added.

Ashok Srivastava of Lavanya claimed that the disease could be prevented with the help of ayurvedic medicines.

Homeopath Anirudh Verma opined that homeopathy was also offering treatment for swine flu. He remarked: "Homeopathic drugs Osssicocinum-30 is very effective against swine flu but it is manufactured only in France. In India, Influengenum-200 is widely used for the disease". He opined that several other homeopathic drugs as Arsenic album, Epitorium perth, Allium cepa, Gelsinium and Bryonia could be used effectively for the disease. Dr. Verma, however, cautioned the denizens to take the medicines only as per instructions of a registered homeopath. For other drugs, he remarked: "We have sent a doctor for collecting samples of affected persons from Pune. The samples will be processed in Central Council for Research in Homeopathy, Delhi, for effective drugs."

Meanwhile, city-based herbal products company, ORGANIC INDIA has also come up with its own recipe for preventing swine flu. The company claims that Tulsi Tea use can be effective in preventing the disease. The company offers two varieties of Tulsi leaves - Krishna (Ocimum sanctum) and Vana (Ocimum gratissimum) and Katuki (Picrorrhiza kurroa). It claims that all the three agents are strong adaptogens and are immune-modulators and improve both cell mediated immunity and humoral immunity. "These are anti-viral agents also and increase body's resistance against diseases. Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) has been found far more better than very commonly known adaptogens like Eleutherococcus senticosus (Siberian Ginseng) & Panax Ginseng (Chinese & Korean Ginseng)," said a company executive.

ORGANIC INDIA also suggests that constituents of Azardirchta indica (Neem leaves, flowers, twigs) in organic form is also a strong anti-viral agent & an immunomodulator. "It also kills bacteria & fungi. Thus, it does not only take control of the virus but can also arrest secondary infections which are very common during the course of viral infections," he added.
