Organic India: A 25-year-old journey Sustainable Agriculture Movement for a Healthier Future

Since our inception in 2000, Organic India has been at the forefront of promoting healthy conscious living and serving Mother Nature by supporting organic farming communities, advocating healthy lifestyles, and building a sustainable agricultural sector.

World environment day serves as yet another reminder of this commitment.

From sowing seeds to delivering the final product on the shelves, we are creating a regenerative system of production that works with Mother Nature to ensure a safe, healthy, and green future for all.

Some of our initiatives in this direction include:

Establishing a Sustainable Agriculture Movement

Conventional agriculture remains one of the key drivers of global warming and soil degradation. The unprecedented use of chemical/ synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, GMOs, growth hormones, and other conventional farming practices like monocropping has reduced soil quality, eroded its ability to absorb carbon from the environment, introduced harmful toxins in our food chain, and harmed local biodiversity, eventually affecting us all.

To help mitigate this problem, we at Organic India work directly with farmers to use regenerative farming practices with techniques such as organic composting, biological pest control, mulching, tillage, conserving local seeds, crop rotation, and intercropping to help them restore soil to its natural fertility and vitality, improve water quality and minimize dependence on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

Understanding the need for collective action, our approach to sustainability extends beyond individual farmers and communities. We actively partner with government agencies, and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for organic farming, advance sustainable land management practices, and advocate policies that prioritize environmental preservation and farmer welfare.

Over time, this has resulted in not only protecting the health of farmers and the planet but also creating a wide diversity of more nutrient-dense foods free from harmful toxins to promote True Wellness for all.

Promoting Fair Trade Practices to Increase Farmer Incomes

The effects of climate change like erratic monsoons, early summers, and heatwaves are already affecting farmer incomes, especially those of small farmers. Grappling with the challenges of deriving income from very small land holdings, lack of irrigation and financing, and poor connectivity to markets, the effects of climate change have further hampered their livelihood.

Right from the outset, it’s been our mission to create a business model founded on responsible economic, social, and environmental principles and fair trade-based farmer partnerships.

Starting with just one farmer in Azamgarh, we created farming clusters across the country helping them shift from conventional to organic farming,

We continue to empower farmers by training them and supporting them to follow sustainable farming practices, helping to set up seed banks and water conservation infrastructure, reviving natural ecosystems, and restoring soil health to boost productivity and income.

Through fair-trade practices, we have ensured they receive a fair price for their produce, fostering economic stability and enhancing their quality of life. Community health care, education, and inclusive social change for women are part of our vision.

Almost 25 years on, this vision has now led to the economic and cultural revitalization of rural farm communities with 3,000 thriving farm partnerships.

Pioneering the Organic Food Movement in India

In India, ORGANIC INDIA was the pioneer in bringing ‘organic’ into the ambit of collective consciousness in urban society.

Starting with our flagship product, Organic India Tulsi tea, we have over the years added many more certified organic teas and infusions, organic whole herb supplements, packaged foods; and skin care products, living up to our abiding principle of enabling healthy conscious living for all.

Through rigorous quality control measures, we ensure our products are free from synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and preservatives to nourish and care for you as Mother Nature intended.

We are the first Indian company to opt for international organic certification, and today are proud to hold the highest number of organic and quality national and international certifications, certifying our uncompromising quality standards and making us popular both in India and the global market.

To conclude:

As the world faces pressing environmental challenges, we believe our efforts to establish a sustainable and regenerative model of agriculture can help us mitigate some of the effects. Thanks to your support, we along with our partner farmers have already transformed 11300 acres of land into chemical-free farms. Because each Organic India product you buy is one link in a chain of connectedness between Mother Nature, our farmers, and you.

Together, we can make a difference to leave a more green, healthy, and safe planet for future generations.
